Hip Hop into Spring and Slide into Easter

The Dynamic Duo (Bunny and Lamb) are at it again

… with an interactive penny slider card for Spring or Easter… with an added little helper.

There are a lot of penny slider card tutorials already out on the www, so I am not going to bore you with another.  (But, just in case, here is a great penny sliding tutorial).

But I will give you the steps I used to create this card.

Stamps:  Honey Bunny Multi-Step Clear Stamps, Little Lambs Multi-Step Clear Stamps, Trees Multi-Step Clear Stamps, Rolling Hill Multi-Step Clear Stamps, and flowers from Hey Chick! Multi-Step Clear Stamps from Kitchen Sink Stamps.

  1. Using a MISTI stamp platform, I stamped one identical little lamb on the right side of two pieces of card stock – 4″ x 5.25″ One card will be the base and the other will be the top.
  2. Masking the lamb with Stamping Masking Paper on both cards,  I then stamped the rolling hills background covering the bottom 1/3 of the card.
  3. Next, I stamped the tree on the left. No masking was needed and I only stamped the bottom portion of the tree on the card that I planned for using the base portion of the finished card.
  4. While the lamb was still masked, I sponged the clouds on the card that would be the top portion only (with the full tree). Again, I did not mask the tree but blended the clouds into the outer leaves.
  5. Using the top card (with full tree and clouds) I cut out the “hopping trail” for the bunny backed by a penny, by using the smallest curve die (Slide On Over Semicircles from Lawn Fawn) and made 3 repetitive cuts. I started by cutting the middle curve first and then the side by lining one end of the die up with the one end of the cut hole. Repeat for the other side until you have 3 curves.
  6. Stamped the sentiment, grass, and flowers on the top card.
  7. While the Christmas Red Stickles Glitter Glue was drying on the little flowers, I stamped a bunny on a separate scrap piece of card stock (approx 3″ x 3″) and cut him out (or you could use the coordinating SVG digital cut file).
  8. Cut a tab for under the bunny’s feet out of clear acetate/film (Stand Up Helpers Die by Elizabeth Craft Designs) and adhere directly to the back of the bunny (see close up photo below).
  9. While holding bunny to the top of card over “hopping trail” die-cut hole, turn over and add a penny to the back of the bunny with a pop dot. This is how the bunny will be able to move.
  10. Add Adhesive foam tape (thicker than the depth of the penny and pop dot) to the back of the top card’s sides and more pop dots along the die cut curves – making sure to leave room for the penny to move freely along the back side of the die-cut curves.
  11. Before removing the backing of the foam tape, remove the backing to the pop dots only.
  12. Flip the card over and match up the top card and base card together by using the legs of the lamb and tree trunk. Press down. Trim all 4 sides if needed.
  13. Remove the foam tape backing and press down.
  14. Finish card by adding it to a 4.25″ x 5.5″ folded card base.

NOTE: Since the bunny doesn’t have a lot to hold onto, pushing his back end mad him spin a bit out of control. I wanted him to hop along to the other side of the lamb. To fix this issue, I added a tab to his feet using (Stand Up Helpers Die by Elizabeth Craft Designs). I did not want the tab to block any portion of the card so I cut the tab out of clear acetate.

Problem solved, now when you pull the clear tab, the bunny hops up and down along the curved trail!

Hey Chick!

If you haven’t tried creating a penny slider card before, give it a try. They are loads of fun to make and so is watching the faces of the recipients who receive them.

Please don’t forget to check in with the KSS Design Team and see what they have cooked up recently. Have a wonderful Spring & Inky day!
