Flowers that withstand Heat Waves

A Record High Temperature in Southern Calif. at 111° +

Can’t stop Multi-Step Flowers from Blooming!

Late last week and into the early part of this week, many parts of the globe were (and still are) experiencing intense heat waves … and I mean crazy hot heat waves! Where I live, it got to a record-breaking 111° on July 7th! That same day, reports said that the surrounding cities of Los Angeles were hotter than Death Valley, CA which had a high of 102°! Needless to say, the few things that I can grow in my yard and garden (Calif. native drought-tolerant plants), are now all crispy fried!

I find these days, the one type of gardening I have any success with is … a stamped one! LOL! I would love to hear from those in other states and countries when your garden is under siege from the heat, what plants stand victorious?

I found after stamping the swirls background, the blue hydrangeas fought a bit with the swirls and felt the sentiment wouldn’t pop enough. Adding an overlay of light pink vellum (translucent) sheet over the swirls was the answer!

Stamps used to create both cards: Hydrangea Multi-Step Clear Stamps, Basket Multi-Step Clear Stamps, Big & Bold Swashes Clear StampsGiant Sunflowers Multi-Step Clear StampsWhole Family Clear Stamps, and Words 4 Celebrating Clear Stamps.

The Sunflower card below was less involved. I started by stamping the three sunflowers close together on a 4.25″ x 5.5″ piece of cardstock. Added leaves around the blossoms and then trimmed down the stamped cardstock to fit the layered card base. Sponged the edges and adding the ladybugs last. It is hard to see in the photo, but I added a few drops of Clear Nuvo Crystal Drops on some of the leaves to look like dew drops.

Please check out what the KS Crew has cooked up for you this week.

Hydranges, Blue Jeans and Pearls

…  and a KSS for the Bride to be!

This past weekend, I attended a Bridal Shower. It starts the count-down to a special wedding that is extra close to my heart … my God-Daughter is getting married! It was definitely one of those, “OMG, wasn’t it just yesterday she was this little peanut that stretched out perfectly in my lap!?” It wasn’t yesterday, but sure feels like! lol

I love the colors she has chosen for her wedding … “Champagne, Beige Brown, and Blue Jeans”. So of course, like any card maker … I let her color combo inspire a color challenge!

Stamps used to create this card Hydrangea (Multi-Step) Clear StampsWedding Rings (Multi-Step) Clear Stamps, and Whole Family Clear Stamps.

I used a piece of blue, sandable cardstock from Core’dinations. Using the textured side and sanding with layers of cardstock underneath the blue cardstock so the card stock wasn’t flat when I started sanding. This gave the cardstock a “worn in” jeans look in more spots than others. It is hard to tell from the photo, but the center heart is cut from Stardream Quartz cardstock. It has a shimmer, pearl metallic look to it, so it is a bit slick. I used Onyx Black (VersaFine) ink for the sentiment so I could get a crisp stamped image. So far, VersaFine is the only ink I have had success stamping fine detail on Stradream’s metallic cardstock. [If anyone has had success stamping on metallic paper with any other type of ink, I would love to hear about it.] To be safe from any last min. smudges (yes, I have had finished cards, only to smudge them while placing them in the envelopes! URGH!) … I left it to dry all day before adhering it to the card. In the meantime, I added the scalloped heart to the card so I could add the bottom layers of hydrangeas and leaves (all SVG cuts) and work out where the “pop-up” hydrangeas would go.

I am happy with how it turned out and I think the Bride-to-Be was too! Oh, and for those of you who attended my Texas workshop back in 2010 … it is Kelly who is the Bride-to-Be (yup, the one with the stretched out arms❣)

Zinnia Paper Weight project

Lost Zinnias

Here is a project that has been sitting on my computer in “draft mode”. I can’t believe I forgot to share it with you! Well, better late than never. 🙂

This project starts with a

clear-acrylic, oval stamping block, and Multi Step Zinnias

… and transforms it into a lovely paper weight.

Begin by randomly stamping the zinnias (working from the center out, masking the center zinnias). Embossed the sentiment. Position the block over the stamped area as desired for the end product. Lightly trace around the block with a pencil.  Using a tooth pick [or small disposable brush], apply a thin coat of Diamond Glaze to the “back” side edge of the acrylic block (only the edge so the glue won’t show through the block and distort your stamped image). Reposition the block over the stamped image within the pencil out line and glue side down. Being careful not to nick or cut into the block, trim away the excess paper neatly around the block with sharp scissors (or x-acto knife). Back the underside of the paperweight with velvet paper, die cut in an oval shape (a bit smaller than the block) … a scalloped oval is also pretty.

Makes a great gift!

Lots to Celebrate!

There has been a lot to celebrate in our house lately with birthdays & graduations! But the celebrating doesn’t stop there … Kitchen Sink Stamps is also celebrating with the long-awaited release of new stamps!

That’s right!

Five new stamp sets from Kitchen Sink Stamps

… are almost here and will be available on June 10th!                                                                      (That’s one week from today – YaHoo!)

I must share that I did something a little different when it came to designing the new stamp for this release. I asked the KSCrew, “What stamp set have YOU always wanted from KSS?”. Boy-O-Boy was I inspired by their input! Since I can hardly wait for you all you to see, I’ll have a new peak to show every day until Monday, June 10th! Here is your first peak. 🙂

PLUS … to add to the fun, beginning on June 10th, a special giveaway will be happening over on the KSS Forum for all our registered members. Please, stay tuned to find out more.

Now, if that wasn’t enough cause for excitement … look who is back in the Kitchen to help us celebrate the new stamp release and help us cook up some multi-step inspiration ???

Tammy Hershberger, that’s who!

Welcome back, Tammy! Always great to have you back in the Kitchen stamping with us!

That is all my news for today so I will leave today you with two single layered cards.  Thanks for stopping by and have a Happy (and inky) Monday!

I can hardly wait … NEW stamps coming this June!

More info to come.

Does my Mother’s Day card look a little familiar? The original can be found HERE.

I hate to have to admit this … but there are times when I stamp a card and for some reason or another, I don’t end up using it with the original stamped sentiment. Thank goodness for die cut shapes! It’s a great way to change a sentiment! 🙂

Thanks for stopping by and have a GREAT day!
