Poppin in with a simple Pop Up!

A Pop Up Bunny for a KSS Easter Surprise!

Got-Eggs-Front

Got-Eggs-Bunny-inside-2

For as long as I can remember, I have always loved pop-up books but felt I needed an engineering degree (or tear the book apart) to figure out how it all works! Then I stumbled across these simple Stampendous DCP1008 Pop Up Stages Die-Cut Set. These dies make it so easy to add the right size pop-up to a card!

First I did a “template sample” with all pop-up dies on one sheet of cardstock. This made it easy for me to see which die # would be the right size for the object that would be popping out, which would be the large bunny from Honey Bunny (Multi-Step) Clear Stamps. Both the bunny and the larger lamb from Little Lambs (Multi-Step) Clear Stamps [on the template sample], used the #2 die.pop-up-sample

When doing a pop-up card, you really need to think about make 2 cards … an inside and an outside and then adhere the two cards together. This way the outer card hides the die cut tab that is needed for the pop-up but leaves a whole on the other side.

I created the inside of the card first … which is completely opposite to how I usually stamp a card. lol! After I finished the inside, I realized I had no idea what the front of the card would be! If I used the bunny on the inside, as the “surprise” … what would the front image be or design say that wouldn’t give the bunny surprise away inside? Then it hit me! “Got Eggs?”! What else would a bunny say or ask this time of year? … well besides, “Please don’t bite my head off!” – giggle

Watch KSS “Got Eggs?” Here on YouTube

Got Eggs? for the front of the card was the answer and layered stamping with Playful Alphabet Clear Stamps and Play Alphabet Buddy Clear Stamps was the solution! (I have listed all the inks used below). Here is my first attempt at a video with my pop-up card in action. (Don’t worry, nothing is wrong with your volume… this is a silent video.) 😉

Got-Eggs-Bunny-inside-1TIP: Don’t worry if the two cards aren’t lining up perfectly, They won’t if you start with two pieces of cardstock the same size (mine were both 5.5″x 8.5″ – scored down the center). It is much easier to score both pieces of cardstock, add adhesive to the back side of the pop-up portion of the card and no adhesive where the pop-up whole is. Fold that card closed and with adhesive out slide it into the front card portion (slightly folded) … like a taco. Make sure both score lines come together before closing the two cards together and pressing firmly. The inside card should be sticking out a bit at the bottom. This is not a problem. With the finished card still closed, trim all the layers together (paper trimmer or exact and metal edge ruler) along the bottom for a clean-cut edge. If your card is a fraction shorter than your usual cards… no one will ever notice. They will be too busy oohing and aahing over your pop-up inside! 🙂

If you haven’t tried creating a pop-up card or scrapbook page, I hope today’s card encourages you to try adding a little “POP” to your stamping project.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Lead to happiest heights
And the highway you travel
Be lined with green lights.”

Keep Calm and Shamrock On

While I was working on the shamrock shaving cream candy box, it hit me! I could stamp a bunch of shamrocks right over the apples and stamp a few more to fussy cut for adding layers with pop-up dots. I then stamped another bicycle basket in red and added it with a pop-up dot too.

Shamrock Shaving Cream Fun!

St. Patrick’s Day Coaster Box

Shamrock-Box

Today’s green project was inspired by the cute little sample candy boxes from See’s Candy, like the box below from Christmas. I thought chipboard coasters would make the perfect top and bottom to make my own candy box! See's-Christmas-Box

This Christmas See’s candy box is a bit bigger than the 4″ square coasters I had, so I had to size down the side panels to fit properly.

I have been having a lot of fun using the shaving cream technique and used it again for this project and did it to both sides the coasters – top and bottom. I really like how this technique can produce quite a bit of pattern paper from one application. I was able to create 3 additional 4″x5″ pieces of marbled paper after coating both sides of the coasters. I guess it all depends how much ink is used when adding it to the shaving cream.shaving-cream-marbled-paper

Please let me know if who would be interested in seeing a video demo of this quick and fun St. Patty’s project?

St Patricks Day post card

Do you like to stamp on coasters?

With a little leprechaun magic with and…

Invisible Snowman (Multi-Step) Clear Stamps,

to dust off all his cupid love for this fun St. Patrick’s Day postcard – originally posted in March 2011.St Patricks Day drink coaster & post card #2

Here is another “Going Green” postcard with some green roses added and a St. Pat’s coaster. I added a transparent scalloped circle with embossing powder on top of the image portion of the coaster. This is to prevent the ink from bleeding when the coaster absorbs moisture when a drink is placed on top.

So, what is your favorite shape coaster to stamp on?   Have an inky day!
