Happy KSS Monday …
It’s Official 5 New Stamp Sets on the way!
Next Monday, Oct. 21st, five new stamp sets will be available in the KSS store. As always, when new stamps are released … I will be sharing Sneak Peeks with all of you through this week.
Here is the first Sneak Peek!
My last post, I mentioned that I broke down and got a Silhouette cutting machine. Ever since it arrived, I have been cutting up a storm… and LOVING IT!!! (Note: I am not affiliated with, nor do I sell Silhouette products) I feel like having stamped, die cut images (ready to go), is changing the way I am making cards … is it possible that I really WILL get my Christmas cards done before Thanksgiving this year!!?! 😉
Something else … I admit I have always wanted to stamp 2 teddy bear buddies arm n’ arm, but the making of arms, ears, feet, etc. … seemed like a nightmare – until now! 🙂 Having to die cut Teddy Bears, anything is possible.
Stamps used in this card and tutorial below: Multi-Step Teddy Bear Wishes from Kitchen Sink Stamps.
Now, I have been used to stamping, then die-cutting with my BigShot … so cutting first, then stamping??? I thought this wasn’t going to be so easy. Lining up stamps to fit within cut lines? Multi-step stamping on the die-cut shape? This sounded like a recipe for frustration… die cut shapeshift about right before stamping or having to pick or peel the card stock shape of the stamp after stamping … and for each step?!! — I knew there must be a better way!
Then it hit me!
Ok, maybe you all are doing this sort of technique already and I’m just way behind and not sharing anything new??? But, just in case you’re not … my “ah-ha” idea is to multi-step stamp die cuts using the adhesive tacky cutting mat (for the electric die cutter) along with a contrasting cardstock background!
Here is what I did:
First: Using 2 pieces of 4″x5″ cardstock, one white and one kraft. Cut 3 die cut teddy bears in each color of cardstock.
The bear is from the stamp set, Multi-Step Teddy Bear Wishes Clear Stamps and the SVG cut files can be downloaded for FREE when purchasing the stamp set.
Second: For both white and kraft – pop out the die cut teddy bear shapes. Keep the outer portion of the die cut cardstock – they will be used as the “contrasting background”.
I am right-handed, so I used the lower right corner of the “tacky” adhesive cutting mat and placed the kraft outer portion of the die cut cardstock on top. The lower right corner allows me to stamp without the sides of my hands or the bottom of my forearms from sticking to the cutting mat (which when stuck to my arm, made a mess and really bugged my sink). Then I placed the 3 white teddy bear die cut shapes, into the empty cut shapes of the kraft cardstock.
Third: I first stamped with Step # 3 in Rich Cocoa. This step/stamp had most of the bear image where I could use a dark color. The contrasting color of the two card stocks gave me a good visual outline (target) for positioning my stamp. The dark ink on the stamp made it easier to see where the image was going to land on “target area” of the card stock. The tacky cutting mat kept the inked bears in place after stamping (yeah!) I found that it was easier for me to rotate the stamp to match the die cut shape instead of turning the cutting mat/card stock. [NOTE: see the teddy in the upper right, I was a little off with positioning the stamp which left some white at the bottom of his feet. This was easily covered with some ink and a dauber .]
After stamping all 3 bears with Step #3, I continued with:
- Step #2 – Toffee Crunch
- Step #1 – Desert Sand
- Step #4 – Tuxedo Black
After these bear were finished, I did the same process with the kraft die cut bears and the white outer die cut portion of card stock.
- Step #3 – Rich Cocoa
- Step #2 – Toffee Crunch
- Step #1 – did not use
- Step #4 – Tuxedo Black
What was REALLY exciting … was how fast this whole process was!
So of course, I had to time how long it really took.
ARE YOU READY? ….
Die Cut Time: 3 teddy bears – 3 minutes and 56 seconds
6 teddy bears – just under 8 mins. (OMG!!!)
Stamping Time: 6 teddy bears – 5 minutes and 42 seconds
Total Time: 6 die cut, multi-step stamped bears in less than 15 mins!!!!
In a matter of no time, I had an ARMY of Teddy Bears! 😉
… AND when you have an ARMY of Teddy Bears … you can do almost anything! 😉
Thanks for stopping by and stay tuned for more sneak peeks!
