Inky Science

Happy CR Friday!

I am back with another installment of color recipes for Multi Step Iris … this time using Memento Inks.

You know that old saying?   …“Oil & water don’t mix” ?

The same goes for alcohol & water …. well, that is when it comes to alcohol ink & water base ink! 😉

Memento dye inks are water base. Copic markers are made with inks that are alcohol base. Wondering what I am getting at?

When you stamp your base art with a water base ink (such as: Memento inks), you can add detail with Copic markers (an alcohol ink) and the two inks WON’T SMEAR together!    Pretty cool, right?! …. I think so!

Here is an example of using the “two different inks” together to create a 2 tone – purple & gold Iris.

If I tried to create this card using all water base inks/markers, the yellow marker would start to bleed and smear with the purple ink as soon as the two touched … not to mention the yellow marker would be a mess – if not ruined. BUT, working with the two different inks together, I can add the different yellows (3) and not worry at all if I crossed over into the purple while coloring. (Too many Diet Cokes can make a shaky hand – LOL!) Below is a step-by-step guide to illustrate how I colored the iris with Copic markers after stamping with Memento inks. I hope this info inspires some inky color experiments of your own! 😉

[NOTE: This card is also for Lynn’s 10 min. challenge – 10MC65 … I love this clean & simple card design of Lynn’s. This one is going in my “go to” file!]
