One of the new stamp sets released this month is called, Nesting Dolls, and was used for Sneak Peek#2. This set was inspired by the wooden Russian doll called, “Matryoshka” … which is a derivative word for “Mother”. This set is close to my heart, for these Nesting Dolls and the Ukrainian Style Easter Eggs below this card (that are both in this set), will always remind me of my Mom.
Both my Mom & Grandmother had a set of nesting dolls that I loved playing with when I was a small girl. My favorite doll in that set was the smallest… she was so tiny and measured less than 1/2″ tall.
In addition to the nesting dolls, my mother’s parents both came from the Ukrainian and every Easter we would make Ukrainian Easter Eggs. A process of using hot beeswax to draw a design onto a raw egg, then dying the egg using several different colors. With each color, more drawing with the wax until the design is complete. When the design is finished, with a hot cloth is used to wipe off all the wax, exposing all the different colors. One egg can take several hours to decorate depending on the detail and how many colors are used. Here is an example of a real Ukrainian Easter Egg (on the left) and one I did many years ago …. gee, the pattern looks familiar! LOL!.
