  2. my favorite one ever was when my boss’s mom made me the original German Chocolate Cake from SCRATCH! She was German and 77 yr old. I treasured it because that was Oct of 98 and by Aug of 99 she was dying in my arms. among her last words were “I won’t get to bake your cake this year” She loved me as her own. Her daughter and I had been friends since school and she actually replaced my mom in my heart when my mom passed away when I was 19. But every birthday that comes now, I see that beautiful cake and her wonderful smile. God is good! Linda Crowder

  3. My favorite birthday cake is the German Chocolate Pound Cake which my mother makes. Although I have had the recipe for years, I don’t even try to cook it anymore. I have never been able to duplicate her awesome results! It’s still the favorite of her grandsons as well.

I can’t wait to see all of that gorgeous hummingbird!! Only one more week!!!

  5. What an easy question today after such a hard one yesterday. My favorite birthday cake is an angel food with a 7 minute frosting. My Nana used to make me a homemade angel food cake for every birthday and she would tint the delicious 7 minute icing with blue, or green, or pink. Boy, was that cake ever good. Nana has been gone for over 25 years now and what I wouldn’t give for one of her wonderful cakes. Thanks.

My Granny use to make all our B-Day cakes growing up (She was a cake lady locally) and she got older and unable to decorate anymore due to Arthritis….So sadly we have had to store buy B-Day cakes for the last 5 or so years! Even though some SB is scrumpcious….I sure Miss her cakes though!!

  15. My favorite cake is Hummingbird cake…that’s great, isn’t it? The sneak peak for today is a hummingbird and I love hummingbird cake. Ha! Don’t worry, my cake doesn’t have hummingbirds in it. It does have pineapple, bananas, coconut, pecans and lots of other good stuff. It got its name because when you eat it you say, “mmmmmmm, mmmmmmmm”. Love these sneak peeks.

  18. The hummingbird is really beautiful. Wonderful sneak peak.

My favorite birthday cake is Death by Chocolate. I’ve had it twice. There is a baker in north Oklahoma City that makes it and it’s pricey at over $40 but so worth it. I call it “sin on a plate”. I settle for plain old chocolate most years to keep the family happy. I’d really prefer apple cobbler or pie, lemon cake or a carrot cake. So I really appreciate these when I’m somewhere that serves them.

  21. Okay this is easy — much easier than yesterday! German chocolate — home made with double the frosting recipe! Yeah! That was easy. And well I can look forward to my honey making me that in just 5 more days!!! Yes, you read that right. Every year he makes me a home made, all the way from scratch, with his very own giant kitchen aid mixer, German Chocolate cake. Last year he made two since the first turned out more like German Chocolate soup with floating chocolate croutons. Tasty but quite odd. Not quite sure what happened with that!

It’s just perfect in this hot weather and soooo yummy. This is the one day I can binge out with no guilt and nobody dare remind me of my diet. Happy Birthday to me.

  27. Favorite cake? I don’t eat very much cake anymore – just don’t care for it very much. But I remember as a kid, I would always ask for Pineapple Upside Down Cake. In fact, that still sounds pretty good! If I had one now though, I might as well just tape it directly to my hips because that is where it would go anyway!!! LOL

  42. My favorite cake would be a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. But, chocolate would be right up there. Seeing the shamrock in the picture reminded me of the cakes my mom made for me. My birthday is St. Patrick’s Day. One year she made me an angel food cake and put a doll in the center and she was the doll from Ireland with her dress of shamrocks and then mom managed to tink the icing green too and extended her dress down the cake! But that was before carrot cake and cream cheese frosting made an appearance! Again, congratulations on turning 1.
